ComDEX Lets You Measure the Communication Skills of Your Managers

 

How effective are your company’s managers as communicators? As builders of trust and understanding? In helping people understand business and change issues?  

 

Research shows that the most important information source in any company is the immediate supervisor. But communication from this source is often the least evaluated and seldom measured.  From our years of conducting research, we have developed ComDEX, a one-of-a-kind questionnaire that is the first instrument we know of to measure a manager’s face-to-face communication skills.  

 

In an easy-to-complete, 25-question survey, ComDEX assesses the quality of a manager’s face-to-face communication through both a self-assessment by the manager and an evaluation by the employees in his/her department.  The findings from ComDEX will identify how effective your company’s managers are as communicators and as builders of trust and understanding within the organization.  

 

Comdex provides answers to such questions as:
-- Are managers seen as credible by employees?  Candid? Consistent?

-- Do your company’s employees receive informative, timely, useful and frequent communication from their supervisors?

-- How well do supervisors in your company help employees understand the changes taking place, the reasons behind decisions, the business objectives?

-- Do employees in your company feel recognized and listened to? Are their ideas and suggestions asked for and encouraged?

 

You can use ComDEX to assess the communication of each individual manager or to assess the overall face-to-face communication of all of your company’s managers, or a combination of  both. We can help you set up the process in a way that best meets your needs.

 

1—ComDEX can give you an overall communication index rating for all managers in your company. It can pinpoint collective strengths among your managers and identify skills that  need to be developed.

 

2—ComDEX can provide you with an index rating for each manager. This rating can be used to compare with the norm of other managers in the company, pinpointing exact strengths and weaknesses of individual managers and identifying specific training needs and areas for improvement.

 

3—ComDEX can also be used as part of an individual manager’s performance review process, should you choose to make communication a performance-rating item.  ComDEX is easy to administer. We can provide turnkey services—creating the questionnaire, tabulating the returns and reporting the findings—or you can administer the entire process yourself, in-house.
